Our advanced wine tasting courses are designed to appeal to those who have attended one or more of our intermediate courses and feel ready to extend their knowledge and understanding further. These courses will help you to acquire an in-depth knowledge of some of the world’s most important wine producing regions and become a proficient wine taster.
We are currently offering two courses at this level. Each consists of five two-hour sessions. Tasting samples of six wines will be provided to illustrate the main points of each session. These will be of a higher average quality than those provided on the intermediate courses.
The Two Advanced Wine Courses:
1. The Wines Of Bordeaux
An in-depth look at the world’s most famous wine producing region.
Session topics are:-
- The Bordeaux Côtes
- Sauternes, Barsac and Entre-Deux-Mers
- Pessac-Léognan and Graves
- Saint-Emilion and Pomerol
- The Médoc
Comprehensive course material is provided.
The Wine Education Service is a partner school of L’Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux. All tutors taking this course are accredited by the Bordeaux school.
2. The Wines Of Burgundy
We will help you to get to grips with this classic region.
Session topics are:-
- Chablis and the Auxerrois
- The Maçonnais
- The Côte Chalonnaise
- The Côte de Nuits
- The Côte de Beaune

Comprehensive course material is provided.
Frequently Asked Questions:
• What should I expect from those courses?
By the end of each course, you should have an in-depth knowledge of the different styles of wine and how they are produced in the regions covered. You will also have developed your proficiency as a taster significantly.
• What if I have to miss a course session?
No problem! You may either send a substitute or pick up the session missed on a subsequent course. Just let us know and we will make the arrangements. We make no charge for this and set no time limit!
• What equipment is used?
You will need to bring six wine glasses to each session. If you really want to sharpen your taste buds, a set of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) glasses used by wine (and spirit) trade professionals is recommended (the tutor will have boxed sets of six crystal ISO tasting glasses on sale at £15).
• Who are the principal Course Tutors?
Senior members of the Wine Education Service team with the appropriate specialist knowledge and experience.All are qualified to Wine & Spirit Education Trust Diploma level, have extensive lecturing experience and travel widely to keep up to date. Most are members of The Association of Wine Educators and/or The Circle of Wine Writers.
