What sort of people come on the courses?
A variety of people from a range of professions and backgrounds. Most are wine consumers who are keen to know and appreciate wines more.
A few participants from the wine and catering trades provide a useful exchange of perspectives on wines and the wine business. Some are keen to gain wine tasting skills and for some the emphasis is on relaxed diversion after a hard day’s work.
Is the introductory course suitable for real beginners?
Yes. We don’t assume any prior knowledge of wines, only an interest in the subject. Many people with some wine knowledge also find the course good for them and some of our overseas customers know more about the wines of their own country and are looking to broaden their knowledge and experience.
If you’re unsure about whether to join at the introductory or intermediate level contact us and discuss it.
Who are the principal Course Tutors?
Senior members of the Wine Education Service team with the appropriate specialist knowledge and experience.
All are qualified to Wine & Spirit Education Trust Diploma level, have extensive lecturing experience and travel widely to keep up to date. Most are members of The Association of Wine Educators and/or The Circle of Wine Writers.
What if I have to miss a course session?
No problem! You may either send a substitute or pick up the session missed on a subsequent course. Just let us know and we will make the arrangements.
We make no charge for this and set no time limit!
What equipment is used?
You will need to bring six wine glasses to each session. If you really want to sharpen your taste buds, a set of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) glasses used by wine (and spirit) trade professionals is recommended.
The tutor will have boxed sets of six crystal ISO tasting glasses on sale at £15.
