Located along the Mediterranean coastline of north-eastern Spain, the wine region of Catalunya produces some of the country’s finest wines. There are 10 sub-regions – Alella, Conca de Barberà, Costers del Segre, Empordà, Montsant, Pla de Bages, Tarragona, Terra Alta, Penedès and Priorat.  Each of these is capable of produce quality wines of distinctive character.  Penedès is known as the birthplace of Cava but as Familia Torres has shown, can produce red wines of world class.  Star billing, however, must go to the wine makers of Priorat who have rejuvenated the ancient vineyards of their mountainous home and are now producing some of Spain’s most lauded and sought-after reds and whites.  These are expensive of course and so it’s fortunate that wines of similar style are available from the adjacent Montsant and Terra Alta vineyards at far more accessible prices.

There really is something for every wine lover here.
