Le Marche, Abruzzo and Molise, the vineyards that line the central part of Italy’s Adriatic coast, produce around 20% of the country’s wine.  Historically, the emphasis there was on quantity over quality but recent investment in the vineyards and wineries is beginning to pay dividends.  We will introduce you to some of the new wave producers of quality Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Biferno.

Presenter:  Pippa Hayward with Sandy Leckie.

Availability:  Good.

Wine Suggestions:

From Majestic Wines (Mix Six Prices) – Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Monte Schiavo, 2020 (£7.99), DOCG Offida, Pecarino, Saladini Pilastri, 2019 (£8.99) and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Masciarelli, 2018, (39.99).

From The Wine Society – Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore, Tenute Pieraliso, 2020 (£9.95), Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Vigna Corvino, 2020 (£8.50) and Biferno Rosso Riserva, Palladino, 2017 (£8.95).
