Separated by the Pyrenees but united in their favoured grapes – old bush vines of Grenache/Garnatxa and Carignan/Carinena in all their guises; white, gris, red and even “hairy”, these two regions share so much, yet their wines retain a strong sense of identity. Both regions have a defiantly independent approach and can draw on a patrimony of small parcels of very old bush vines in challenging sites. Each has its own speciality – Cava for Catalunya and oxidative fortified wines in the Roussillon. So, to keep the peace we’ll start with one and end with other. In-between, we explore the extraordinary intense whites and rich, yet fresh reds that both these ancient (and newly discovered) regions offer.
We are planning to show the following wines:-
Penedes, Cava Reserva Brut Nature, Mas Macia, NV.
Montsant, ‘La Pua’ Celler Comunica, ’19.
Cotes du Roussillon Blanc, ‘Terres Nouvelles’, Domaine de la Préceptorie, ‘18.
Corbieres Boutenac, ‘Atal Sia’, Domaine Ollieux-Romanis, ‘18.
Montsant Planella ‘Darmos’, Joan d’Anguera, ’20.
Priorat, ‘Terra de Cuques’, Terroir al Limit, ’19.
Côtes Catalanes, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Gauby ’19.
