It was Albariño that put Galicia on the radar of white wine lovers 30 years ago – and it continues to drive wine production there. But in the last 20 years Galicia’s long -forgotten inland wine regions of Ribeiro, Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras have been resurgent on the back of the current vogue for indigenous grapes like Godello and Treixadura and the involvement of some of Spain’s most respected wine makers. Further east, in the province of Bierzo, one winemaker, Raul Perez, and his work with the Menica grape has captured the attention of wine lovers and critics alike.
We explore this wonderfully green corner of Spain following our own wine “Camino” from west to east.
